hey guys im new to this site and forum. i am also new to the sport of bow hunting. i need some advice on picking a location to hunt. i was planning to go into an area loaded with deer sign and rubs, but recently found that someone was baiting it. i have now moved my proposed location to a new area that seems secluded with a little less deer sign but many more rubs. could this be an area where an old buck is hanging out because he knows the other area is hunted heavily. any advice would be appreciated. thanks

re: diamond hunter

if you are hunting near other hunters stay on stand longer than them, alot of times when they get down they will push deer towards your stand. the average home range of a deer is 1 square mile so he should check his rub line again. keep you head up and maybe you and ol mossy horns will cross paths.

re: ncbowhunter

thanks. thats exactly what i was thinking. i have seen him enter the woods before when i was scouting and he seems to be a loud person, with little regard about spooking game. now its just a waiting game.

If you are finding many more rubs that means it's def a rub line and it's probably being used by more than one buck. I would def set up a stand and sit all day. You just never know what might step out from behind that tree.

You need to remember to make sure the wind is right for that stand location too before you move in. You don't want to blow it, and that deer making those rubs becoming wise to your presence. He might give you one extra chance, but if he's mature forget it he'll be relocating in a hurry or become nocturnal and unhuntable. Id wait a week or two for a good cold front to move in too, hunt other locations if you got em. That spot seems prime and its best to leave it undisturbed until the right conditions present themselves. Just my two cents anyway.
