This is the place to post your observations about rutting activity in South Carolina or simply find out what other hunters are seeing in the woods. Be sure to tell us the area of the state, indicate the date of the observation and describe what you've seen "bucks chasing does, fresh scrapes, etc.".

Re: South Carolina 2005 "G Whittington"

Saluda County, SC. 11/7/2005Been doing alot of scouting on our club and seeing alot of activity related to scrapes and horning. Have been noticing the bucks are split up now and not running together. Hearing several grunting. Killed fair 8 and a 7 during muzzelloading, a 7, 6 and a doe during the first couple weeks of rifle. Good body size! Talking to local hunters this weekend they seem to think we are in a strong start of the rut. Would'nt hurt for a bit cooler weather. Talked to a local deputy and he says they are moving like fire now but says he is seeing mostly the movement at night. Keep ya posted!

Re: South Carolina 2005 "Esauhunting"

11/14/2005:

Spent the last four days in the woods. Thursday morning brother-in-law shot a huge 6 point, massive size rack and body, neck was huge also. Really dry and not much after that, need rain bad! We are seeing a few roaming deer but not much chasing yet that I've seen. What bucks that have been seen seem to be running with the nose to the ground.
