This is the place to post your observations about rutting activity in Pennsylvania or simply find out what other hunters are seeing in the woods. Be sure to tell us the area of the state, indicate the date of the observation and describe what you've seen "bucks chasing does, fresh scrapes, etc.".
Update!Centre county, Potter township. 10/8/05Tonight we were spottin and saw An 8 point a even bigger 6 point, a 4 point and a 3 point. The 8 and the 3 were lightly sparring and the 8 and the 6 already had larger than normal necks.
It has been going good so far. In 4 days of hunting this year I saw 26 deer so far.

I've seen over 30 deer so far. I can tell the bucks are becoming a little more interested in the does....... I have also found a few nice rubs.

Hello All,
The pre-rut is starting to crank hear in NW PA-I have hunted hard in the early bow season "approx. 52 hrs-I have see 11 bucks-22 does-17 yearlings and 8 unknowns." 7 of those were legal bucks---3 really nice bucks. I checked scrapes yesterday and it looks like the bucks are starting to hit these hard in the mornings-we have had some cool-cold temps at night in the last couple of days and the hunting should start to really get good this week....I plan to hunt hard at the end of the week and the 1st week of Nov. I have seen a ton of rubs and scraped along old logging roads and field edges with our food plots. The land owner behind me took a small 8 point on one of our food plots the week before last.
T-Maxx, I will be bow hunting in the area of Karthuas PA just on the centre county line and I'm not from around there I live in texas and I was wondering if you new anything about the rut in that area if you could help that would be great if not its cool. My dad and his family all grew up in Pinn Glenn and we travel up there every year to hunt but this year we all are bowhunting instead of rifle.
Thanks for the help!!
Scott
Howdy there. Its nice to hear of other PA hunters. If you want to feel free to instant message me on here. This week, First of Nov. Is always a very hot week for the bucks here. once regular gun season comes in don't bother with the usual rut bow hunting tactics because there are too many people and all rutting bets are off. Good luck and feel free to contact me for more information.

I live in nottingham,in chester county, not much land to hunt casue its posted but i have permission to hunt this piece of property next to my house and only have seen does. there is alot of rubs around though. went spotting a couple days ago and saw a nice 8 point and 4 point.
Anyone have any predictions on when the rut will pick up?
Well i haven't seen the rut happening here in northeast pa. yet, but my boss missed a huge 10 pt. yesterday 11/10, chasing a doe all over. So it seems as though it starting to get underway. It always seems that way cause our season ends tomorrow. I do wish the game commission would extend our bow season for that 1 week more as there is nothing else in at that time. This morning i arrowed a small 6 pt. at 15 yards and saw him drop after only going 40 yards. I couldn't pass up the shot as i'm leaving for illinois this evening, and it is my last day of bowhunting here in pa. for this season.Well good luck to all. Hunt safe!!
Headed for my first week long hunt in Ohio. Waited a 25 years to hunt trophy racks on private land and finaly I'm going to have a chance next week. I was on stand two weeks ago only a half hour and saw the biggest buck ever while hunting. Easily 170 - 180 class monster who is now named "BUCKZILLA." He was 150 yards out and I couldn't get up the breath to even use my grunt call. I was paralized by his size and body mass! Following day I saw another around 150 class. I had hoped to hit the rut and it looks like I'm going to hit the sweet spot just right. Hopefully I'll be on next month's cover of NA Whitetail and you'll get to see BUCKZILLA too!
went hunting today but didnt see any deer, did see 4 turkeys.. also went spotting but only saw a couple does.
anybody get anything in gun season??
Nothing in gun season for me. Only saw one deer and it was a doe...... Season was really lousy. There aren't the deer here that there used to be..... The only place where I saw deer this year was on my private land here in York. I am not going to the mountains to hunt anymore, there is nothing up there to draw me in anymore. Its just so disgusting. If something isn't soon done about hunting does both weeks of gun season there will be no deer left in Pennsylvania....

i didnt get anything in deer season gun and archery, and i hunted up in the mts without seeing much but tonight while coming home from work a doe slammed in to the side of my truck, so i called the game commision and got a roadkill permit so thats my deer meat for this year. it had to be friday 13th

Same here as to harvesting anything..... And about that deer that hit you, how's that for "bad luck" I am sorry to hear that. Did it do much damage?

Lycoming is excellent, as well as potter, bucks and almost everything above RT 80. However, don't get me wro ng, I have harvested many below RT 80 as well, they just seem to be in bigger numbers farther north. Hope this helps.
