longgun thomas, I hunt in northeast OK, in Cherokee County. So far, I haven't been able to hunt because I'm away at school but my dad and brother have had some luck. My dad killed a doe early and my brother shot a small buck. I call back every day and check up. Just recently they are starting to see tons of sign. Rubs and scrapes everywhere here in the last few days. Some people around the house are starting to see bigger, mature bucks running around right before dark. If we can get a cold snap in here that keep temps cool, things should get good.
cool.i will be out tomorrow morning.with that info i think i will be watching the does with a little more caution.thanks for the info.
oh i have a brother in law danny and his folks allow us to hunt there place down in peggs.last year during rifle he was able to take an eleven point buck out of there. some nice country down there.
i hunt in ottawa county.....more specific in peoria.and also in a place called tripoli.nice place with some good deer there too.
finally nice to here from someone in my area.

Yeah, if it stays cool, the hunting should get good. About my luck, it will warm up and rain all during muzzleloader. Just my luck. Oh yeah, you say you know someone that lives in Peggs? That's where I live. I probably know the guy you are talking about.
yeah his parents last name is hendrickson.i am not sure of the first names or the road they live on but i can say its a long dead end dirt road and they live at the very bottom of it....in a pink house.very nice people.we are plaining a trip for thanksgiving day there.
"A society that cannot enforce its most basic rules is not a society at all,"
Nice. There's usually a lot of good deer killed around Thanksgiving. Now what do you think about this weather? It cools off for a couple days then warms up for a couple. I love the cold stuff but the warmer days ruin it. I hope it gets cold and stays that way until about March. I see the opening morning for muzzleloader should be below freezing "or so the weatherman says". Deer should be moving, hopefully a few bucks will be getting it on their mind as well. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Have you had any luck so far? Been seeing anything? My dad is in Nebraska hunting right now and my brother and mom are fishing so I'm not sure if anyone has had any luck back home.
the weather is strange....originally i am from upstate new york.its never this hot in new york.
so far this year i have seen a small buck outta bow range, several does, missed two just a week ago,and i saw the fork horn with three does.have not goe out to peoria yet.have heard stories about a nice eight point, nobody will say where they have seen it so i am figuring its public area.
went to kansas this morning and saw two doe and two fawns.the doe were huge.course i dont hunt kansas yet.

I live in Pushmataha County is SE OK. This past weekend, I finally found evidence of some rutting activity. I found several fresh scrapes and several brand new rubs. The rubs show signs of aggressive bucks. We are not seeing any deer movement until after 10:AM. This has happened for two weekends in a row. Also, driving to OKC yesterday, we saw lots of deer in fields in the mid-day including a buck that seem to be cruising. This muzzleloader season should be excellent. Rut wise, the first half of the week should be classic pre-rut. Then the last half, especially the last weekend should be some chasing. The full moon should not hurt too much if the bucks are cruising then like they should be. The second full moon after the first day of fall is usually the trigger for does to go in to estrous. This full moon occurs the first weekend in November. Remember, hunt the first 6 or 7 days around scrapes to catch cruising bucks. Hunt all day because you never know when a buck will be up a around during this time of the year. Then, the last few days, hunt where the does are most likely to be. This may or may not be where the scrape lines are. This is just my opinion.
Had to go to McAlaster today to pick up a new gun, saw 7 deer between the hours of 10am to 2pm, all deer were up feeding, looks good for the season
Welp, I guess it was a pretty good muzzleloader opener back home. For some reason, no one went hunting Sat. morning. Dumb... Saturday evening my dad was hunting the edge of a field with a scrape line running down the edge. Right before dark, a pretty good 9 point came in working all the scrapes. Dad ended up shooting him at about 12 yards. Ended up being a good 9 point that weighed 126 lbs. Sunday morning was something else. My younger brother was sitting watching a highline right-of-way and had a 120 inch 8 point cross about 70 yards from him. Brother hit him with a good double lunger and he didn't run far. He said the buck acted like he was cruising for does. The right-of-way is really grown up with a few good openings every now and again. The buck was headed for a flat that we always have good luck hunting. A buddy of ours also killed a BIG 8 point Sun. morning. He said the buck was laying with a doe. The buck ended up weighing 152 lbs. but the rack was something else. It was a mainframe 8 with split brow tines and split G-2's "or something to that effect, anyways had 15 points total". Should score mid-140's to 150. Not bad for around there. This evening my brother called me while he was watching a tall, narrow racked buck chase a doe all around the field he was sitting in. He said the buck was right on the doe's tail the entire time. Looks like things are starting to warm up nicely, hopefully the temps dont do the same. A little cold weather would be nice.. Good luck out there..
Missed a good 8 point about 8:30 Sat morning. He had just thrashed a couple of small trees and was checking a fresh scrape. There were 7 different bucks seen and one 8 point killed.Hunting in S.E Creek county
Welp, I'm headed back home Wednesday night. Gonna try to hunt all day Thursday and Friday morning. With this weather, it should be prime time. It's gonna be my first time hunting this year, schools been keeping me too busy to go home. I have a feeling the woods are gonna be crazy. Just hope the weather stays cold and the wind lays.
Has anyone bought the "buck roar" or whatever its called? Seems like a lot of people have had success with it but I heard it doesn't sounds very good. I would like to try one out but don't wanna waste my money. Might have to stick with the grunt and snort wheeze.
I hunt in far NW part of the state in Woods county about 7 miles north of Alva. I have alot of wheat and CRP feilds with a shallow canyon running through it. Very few tree's. The doe's use the canyon as a bedding area and we saw alot of them last weekend. No bucks though. I have two questions. How much preasure will run off the doe's and where are the bucks?
My buddies and I are having good luck rattling and grunting. My father got an 8 pointer Saturday afternoon after rattling and doing a tending grunt. My uncle got a 130 class 10 pointer Saturday morning after grunting. He came in immediately. My brother has pasted up several bucks he has rattled and grunted in. I lost an 8 pointer after grunting him in yesterday. We finally saw a large 12 pointer who was chasing some does on Sunday. He had his tongue hanging out like he had been running them for a while. He had 5 does grouped up. Bucks aren't really scraping that much. This doesn't really surprise me based on the part of the rut we are currently in. Chasing should be on the increase in the next few days. Especially with the cold fronts. Just like I posted a week ago, we are still seeing the most deer after 9:00am "new time". Good Luck to all of you. I will be checking back to see if you are seeing the same things as we are.
went to tripli hunting sunday morning and saw a lot of nothing.heard a few far off shots but none were close...well went home and ate some lunch and relaxed for a few.later that day we went back and holy smoke the deer we saw.
grand total we saw eight does including the one my son shot.they were running around lost i guess.very skiddish.
saw one buck early opening day muzzleloader but he would not come down were i was.i used the grunt tube but i just dont think he heard me.forgot the rattle bag and the snort weaze.going out tommorrow, dont know where but i think i am gonna use the rattle bag and the snort weaze.anybody using doe in heat urine yet?
"A society that cannot enforce its most basic rules is not a society at all,"
Welp, I'm headed home to hunt for the first time this season. Going to school takes up a lot of time and Norman is a long ways from Cherokee County. Hopefully the woods will be alive with ruttin bucks. I'll let y'all know how it goes Friday and hopefully have a few pictures to put on here. Good luck everybody!!
Reading entries around Kansas. Enjoy reading all these. We are really getting heavy rut activity in the last 2 days. This weekend "with the full moon" should really throw them into full swing. I have rattled in a few small ones, and my buddy rattled in and shot a 155 class 9 point on Friday. I am going out tomorrow with the decoy and the doe urine.
Well, my trip home for my first hunt of the year was all I had hoped for. Went out Thursday morning but didn't leave the house until 730. With the moon so bright my dad and I figured deer would be moving a hair late and I wanted to sit all day. Got out to my tree and sat down at 806. Perfect morning, cold and calm, sun peeking through the falling leaves. It was the morning that keeps everyone hunting. I decided to let things calm down from my less than silent walk in. About 820 I grabbed my grunt and let out a few soft grunts, then grabbed my shooting stick "a cut limb" and started rubbing it against a small bush, trying to sound like a buck rubbing. Quit that, and watched. I'm hunting a bottom that is about as thick as it gets. I'm sitting at the base of a big tree on a hillside looking down into a bottom. Good bedding area with a creek on the backside. After staring through the brush for about 5 minutes, I pick up movement to my left. It was a small buck with only one side to him. He was slowly walking towards me. Decided this wasn't the buck I wanted, I put my gun down. Then I noticed a buck right behind him rubbing on a bush in the thick stuff. So, I grabbed my can and turned it over real quick. Here they both come, the one horned buck in front with the bigger, lots better 8 point on his tail. They walk within 15 yards of me looking for whatever made the sound. They were so close they were walking on the edge of the hill I was sittin on. After about 3 minutes of searching the nice 8 point makes a rub, attempts to make a scrape, then turns to leave. I thought I would be funny and mess with him so I grabbed my grunt/snort-wheeze and went to blowing it. The little buck just sat there and looked at me, but the 8 point threw his head up, looked back then tucked tail and ran. He knew the big boy was around somewhere. So, I calmed down and went back to my watching. The little buck just gets out of sight and I catch movement out of the corner of my eye. The 8 point that had just left was hauling across in front of me. I was like, what the hell is he doing. Then I saw why. There was a BIG buck chasing him, had his horns almost poking his . I knew this was the buck I was gonna blast so I got ready. Th big buck ran the 8 point and smalled buck off into a cane break, then came at a dead run right to me. I could tell he had 10 tall, heavy points and was about 18 inches wide. Boy, it couldn't be and sweeter. He ran right up to me and stopped, quartering really hard toward me at about 15 yards. I knew if I didn't shoot he was gonna catch me so I centered the crosshairs on his chest and squeezed it off. He humped up and ran alongside the hill, then out into the bottom. I knew I hit him hard so I got excited. He would be my best buck to date by far. So I tried to calm down, but didn't. Finally composed myself enough to load my muzzleloader back up, then I took up th trail. I have never seen a deer bleed that much. It looked like someone was pouring it out of a bucket. So I quit the trail to get help from my dad. I went and picked him up and we started down the trail. We were almost running following the trail it was bleeding so heavy. After about 100 yards my dad said stay with the blood, I'm gonna go up and look for a white belly showing. Welp, to make a long story short, the big buck bled like a stuck hog for about 150 yards, then he hit the cane break against the creek and we lost him. No more blood, no deer, nothing. I went from the highest high to the lowest low. I was tore up, even sick. We looked the best we could for the next 4 hours but found nothing. It was so thick in there you would have to step on him to find him. Guess we can let the buzzards find him for us, hopefully. So yep what a morning. That evening I saw nothing while hunting but saw a nice buck running down the road in the headlights on the way out. Friday morning I went and sat down pretty close to where I hunted the morning before. I saw deer from the second I climbed into the stand. Ended up seeing 17 does, 1 button buck, and 1 nice 7 point. The 7 point was chasing a group of 4 does hard. He chased I don't know how long. I tried to put the hurting on the 7 point but my dang cap snapped and my gun didn't go off. My luck went to in a hurry I ain't kidding ya. But it was an awesome 2 days of hunting. Things are getting good in the woods so if you can get out, you need to be out there somewhere. Good luck out there...
Oh yeah, after seeing those bucks come to the snort-wheeze, I'm sold on it. You don't need anything but a grunt and snort-wheeze. It works amazingly.
TO much wind, terrible Fri/Sat hunt lots of new rubs and scrapes though.

My mom and dad went hunting today about noon. Dad was calling for her since he killed a buck last weekend. They sat down on a point looking down into a thick bottom. Dad took out his grunt/snort-wheeze and hit it a couple times. He had no more than set it down when my mom said she saw a buck coming to them. She said the buck was thrashing every bush and tree he went by. The buck stopped about 60 yards out, looking for the noise when mom put one through him. Ran about 40 yards and piled up. 9 point, 122 lbs. One of my buddies back home was hunting this morning and had a big 8 walk within 15 yards of him, but he couldn't shoot because he shot a little buck last weekend. Boy hes kicking himself for shooting that little one. Should have let the little one walk.
went out saturday and saw two bucks....a small eight point and a small spike.didnt shoot at either cuz i am pretty sure the guy who owned the truck would have been....not happy.lmao.seriously though i looked over both bucks and neither showed signs of rutting.necks where normal,no signs of fighting scars.
then i went out sunday early morning and wouldnt ya know a nine point snuck in the back door.i turned and there he was...ten yards away starring me in the eye.dont think i need to say he politly excused himself from the area.oh well rifle season is soon.this time i will be in a tree stand.
"A society that cannot enforce its most basic rules is not a society at all,"
and today i saw a large nine ,a six and a four all buddying together.

yeehawwww boys we gonna get some rutting action.
"A society that cannot enforce its most basic rules is not a society at all,"
well after a bad morning a good friend saved my bow hunting career.
shot at a spike who was rutting.missed him at 13 yards, got down outta the tree and said"thats it i quit!"
he came over and looked for any sign, found the arrow and no blood.i knew i had missed.
then he said to me you can quit if ya want but nobody is going to use that tree stand but you.and you didnt wound any deer ya just missed.
well that saved the day.for some reason i cant hit the ground with my hat from a tree stand but if i am on the ground i cant miss.whats up with that?
anyway bucks are starting to rut in northeast oklahoma.this small buck walked off after i shot at him.nose to the ground not a care in the world.had very good luck with a grunt tube.they all seem to wanna see who is there.no luck with the snort weeze,i figure that will change soon enough.

Hang in there!! Don't give up whatever you do, that's what makes bowhunting great!! I've missed more times than I can count, but every once in a while I push one through and it's the best feeling ever. Give it time and be patient, the next one you kill might be a monster!!
So you have had luck with the grunt huh? I've had some good luck with it myself, my whole 1 day of hunting so far this year "I go to OU and class takes up all my time". But the snort wheeze is where it's at. I've had 4 different bucks come to it in 1 day. 3 in one morning within 10 minutes. 1 was a shooter that I shot and couldn't find. Hopefully the buzzards find him so I can get the horns. If you are hunting where there are big bucks, I am sure that eventually you will get one to come after the snort wheeze. My mom killed a BIG 9 point the last weekend of muzzleloader and my dad snort wheezed it to her. I am sold on the snort wheeze.
What's with this weather? 80's?? ... But this weekend is looking prime. I have a feeling someone is gonna gig a big one this weekend. I'm gonna try to hunt all day Saturday. I can't pass up a weekend like this. Good luck out there!!
Made the trip home this weekend. Hunted Saturday morning until 945 and didn't see a thing. Saw plenty of squirrels and one coyote. Tried to shoot the coyote but he caught me as I was trying to draw on him. Went out Saturday afternoon but got out kinda late. Saw one buck chasing a doe. No idea how big, couldn't see horns, just him running with his neck straight out about 10 feet behind her. Then had 2 does come down the point to me right before dark. Saw 2 bucks dead on 44 between OKC and Tulsa.
I think the big boys are hung up with does right now. I really doubt they will move much unless their doe moves. I think gun season should be excellent because bucks will have to start searching for does again in about a week. If the weather will stay cool, there should be some big ones on the move. So I'm looking forward to next Saturday morning!!!
seeing plenty of does running at top speed through my area.looking good so far.rubs and scrapes are getting used.when i find a scrape i use a stick to push leaves onto it.come back two days later and its clean again.i am getting the feeling there are some bucks getting that feeling.yeehaw that means they are getting stupid.
i got this one four pointer playin me.so far he has done real well.saw him twice and he knows what i am/look like.this area is bow only but he styas in the area.a twelve acre plot of woods and soy beans feild.not a great buck but he aint none too shabby.cold front moved in wednesday morn.boy it was cold, rainy and miserable.and i was out there.i think winter is here.

I've been calling home about twice a day to check up on the hunting. A friend of mine went out to his land to pick up something the other evening and saw 12. Mostly does but had a decent 8 point running a doe in front of him. Said he was driving thru the field and the pair paid no attention to him. My dad went hunting Tuesday evening before the front came in and he saw 9. Saw 6 does, 2 bucks, and 1 something. The bucks were cruising the flat he was on. Said one was a basket rack 8 and the other was a tall, heavy 8 point that he was gonna shoot if he came close enough.
Things are looking sweet for this weekend. Cold mornings and cool days. I think the bucks will be back out looking for does again after being locked down for a few days. At least thats what I hope. I have noticed that next week the temps are gonna be up in the 70's. We can't get a break for nothing. Good luck out there this weekend!! It should be a good one.
Got a call from my dad last night. He went and sat on the flat where he was the 8 point a couple evenings ago. He said he got up in his climber, got everything ready, and went to grunting and then snort wheezed. He had no more than put the grunt down when he heard a deer running full tilt toward him coming out of the hollow beside him. He said this buck ran up to the edge of the flat, then walked right to him on a string. He said the buck was as pissed as he has ever seen a deer. Every hair was standing on end and every bush within reach of the buck was demolished on the way. Dad shot him at 14 yards broadside. Didn't take up the blood trail though because my grandpa is in really bad health and dad had to go with him. So, I'm have the job of tracking him when I get home from Norman. Needless to say, I can't wait. I think I would rather bloodtrail a deer than shoot one myself. Welp, tomorrow morning should be a good one so be out there if you can. Good luck!!
Working offshore you don't get to choose when deer season falls, but for some reason it always falls while you have to work. Tried hunting during muzzleloader season, lots of deer killed around home, some big, think one was in the paper that scored 180+ B&C typical. I on the other hand did not fire a shot, only saw one small forked horn buck but decided to let him walk. Weather was hot most of the week, guess I will have to break out the bow when I get home and see what happens. Hope everyone is seeing and killing lots of deer. Best of luck
Welp, thus far, gun season has been less than stellar. Opening morning was amazing. My mom saw 20, with a pretty nice buck chasing a doe out in the field in front of her. She couldn't get him stopped for a shot. My brother saw 14 and my dad saw 11. I saw 5. After the morning hunt, things went downhill. Deer were few and far between. One high point was I saw a monster, and I mean monster, 8 point standing under a tree in an open field at 3 pm on opening day. He was out making a scrape in broad daylight with no cover within 250 yards. Too bad I was driving to a piece of land we have permission to hunt on. He was standing off the road about 100 yards in an open field. Man, he was at least 20 inches wide and I'm sure he was taller than he was wide. Heavy horned and huge body. Boy it got the blood pumping. But nothing came of the next few days. Several deer were killed opening weekend, but after that no one saw a deer. I ended up killing a 115 pound 7 point Wed evening. He came in looking for my grunting. That's about it. The weather was too warm and the wind never stopped blowing. This weekend, the cold front should have some deer moving. Hopefully someone will luck onto one this weekend. Good luck guys, and hopefully somebody will get to stick one with a bow!!
