This weekend cold should bring things up a notch, some rubs ,a few scrapes, the rut is still a few days away.

I am hunting the Pee Dee refuge on the second gun hunt November 2, 3, and 4th. How does the rut activity look in Anson so far. Here in Rowan county not much going on yet. Saw 7 deer saturday morning, 5 does, 2 bucks.
you should be in the best week of the rut, several bucks have been killed this week of10-20-06that have been swollen but the are still together so the rut should be in around the 30- or the 11-1 ,I wish that I had your tag Anson Co is capable of a 170 or 180 class buck at any time .Hunt all day and it will happen Good luck send pic;s
Pirates55, I saw a buck on your hunt that was at least 22" maybe 23" inside with very tall tines
Today on the 21,dropped some tinks on ground saw 5 bucks missed the big one .He was under my stand 0 yards ,this is the 3rd time in my 26 years that I have had this shot ,deer 3/me 0 45 yds no problem that's the way it goes
jmac what part of the refuge were you hunting when you saw the 22" buck. I was scouting there this afternoon and saw some good sign. I think they are getting in the mood. It want be long now.
pirates55,we had came from the bridge on 109 turned right and it was the first part of the refuse. Two of my friends live not far from there so I was on the way to their house.THEY HUNT there often and the tell me to find the swamps to hunt in the rut.You should have a topo map so this will help you find the swamps.Good luck .
Wow today was great ,no kill but alot of action.heard one fight.saw a doe getting bumped .I think the rut is here.
Alright NC hunters. Lets hear what you saw this past weekend. I am out of town in Arizona for business but will be hunting at the pee dee refuge this coming thursday november 2nd thru Saturday the 4th. How is it looking as far as rutting activity and weather conditions. Anyone that hunts that area please give me the inside track.
Well guys I'm a new member, but I too hunt in Anson Co. and am starting to see the beginning signs of the rut. However I've not seen the action you guys have seen. I've seen well over 100 deer out of the tree this year, but the rutting action has been slow. I definitely think we are seeing the calm before the storm.
Well guys it;s time to get busy the rut is here.Saw a buck after a doe on thur. Now is the time good luck to all.
Saturday was a very slow day. I saw several deer but no big bucks. I only heard 5 shots all day long. The moon is definitely got us messed up. It will only get better. Good luck to all.
Tueday at 3;00 pm in heavy rain shot a 140 class buck after a doe so much for the myth about deer won;t move in heavy rain.
Congrats on your deer. What part of the county do you hunt in? Have you heard anything of a 160 class deer being killed? I heard he was killed near Ansonville and weighed 240lbs. Just wondering if anyone else has heard about this.
scotty I killed that deer in richmond ,moore ,montgomery co .it was on my grama;s land in windblow if you know where that is .I wiil check with scotty at the bait and tackle on 74 hwy to find out about the deer .I hunt on jones creek just past the bridge on 74 ,our land goes 5 miles down the river.Good deer in there, see alot of 140;s some 150;s would like to see a pic of that buck.if you see one get a copy for us .Good luck ,the time here .ps saw a very good buck beside 220 this moringaround 7;00 am he was a gaint.
Funny you hunt there. I actually came up with the name "Scotty's Gang" because I'm always at Scotty's bait and tackle. I asked him about the deer today and he said he hadn't heard. I used to hunt across 74 from you with Lakeside Bowhunters but now I lease a tract of land near Polkton. Jones Creek has really come a long way since the days of dog running. Good luck....

Just checking to see how you did on sat ,I saw alot of deer before sunrise nothing after that.
Saturday morning was very slow. I saw only 2 deer. Business picked up that afternoon about 20min before dark. I had a nice young 7pt come in. He wouldn't leave so I grunted at him thinking it would make him uncomfortable since he was only 20 yards away. That didn't work, all that happened was 2 more bucks came in and pinned me in the tree for another 10 min. Hopefully this week will be better. Good luck...
Scotty's gang just checking to see how this week is for you guys ,had to finish a brick job so not much hunting this week,i sure would love to be there all day .
A friend of mine from Ellerbe saw a young buck breeding a doe on wed ,he said the buck was making a strange sound so i pulled out the buck roar and he heard it and was amazed in the simiiar sounds.Hey it might be something we need to look into during the rut. PS \ thanks Will for the new call
Last week was a little better. I'm still seeing lots of does with fawns still tagging along. I've talked to several people that hunt near me and they are seeing the same thing. I think the bucks are ready but I don't think the does are in full swing yet. I saw 8 Friday morning "one young buck checking does" and 9 Saturday evening "1 young 7pt came to rattling and a bunch of does and little ones". It should be about to bust. I'm seeing and hearing of more deer running on that end of the county. I've seen several bucks killed over the last 2 weeks and about half of them are swollen and smell. The other half don't look like they've even started. Should be interesting to see over the next 2 weeks.
Scotty's gang have seen alot of bucks togther, cant understand why, are you seeing this in your end of the county.Saw 4 on sat had code blue out ,rattle , grunted ,growled, and could not get them into bow range .I hope your rut is better than what I am seeing now.
Western NC rut is in full swing. Took a nice Rutherford County buck Thanksgiving am. Neck swollen came in to bleat nose to the ground. Other hunters reportong the same. Be beck out this afternoon.
Good hunting,
7wby
7wby I guess it's getting cold in your part of the woods , how is the snow forecast for you this coming weekend ?I think a friend of mine dnr agent Sterling Welch is working your area nice guy , good hunter. look forward to hearing more from your area.My son killed a 7 point today and his friends take three more bucks ,all in the same area.We should see the rut going wild this week .
