This is the place to post your observations about rutting activity in Missouri or simply find out what other hunters are seeing in the woods. Be sure to tell us the area of the state, indicate the date of the observation and describe what you've seen "bucks chasing does, fresh scrapes, etc.".
Any Western MO bowhunters out there? I watched three 1.5 year olds sparring yesterday morning, but they paid little attention to a doe and her twins that were in the area. No big movement of big ones during daylight yet. Scrapes starting to pop up more frequently.
will be hunting dent county this weekend. haven't had time to do any scouting. anyone got some activity to report?
Since Sunday I've been filming for NAW Television in Chariton County, north of Marshall. We saw mainly young bucks early in the week, but with the favorable weather change on Wednesday, we started seeing more good bucks. In fact, this morning I glassed two brutes and several other good ones with a single doe. Unfortunately, cameraman Tim Potts "Stan's son" and I had to bug out and not hunt today, due to prior commitments back at home. So it goes sometimes . . . even for the TV guys.
Hello guys, Area 7 has been pretty good through the last few days of October and coming on strong the first week of November. Due to a warming trend the pushing started to dwindle a bit. I had two bow hunters in the field during this time and they had a wonderful time many sightings and not just the "potlickers", there were some 140 to 150 class moving. Lots of does were seen as well. Most activity though was limited to the woods. Only the smaller bucks chased in the fields during early morning and evening. The bigger bucks are holding in the woods. Looks like a good mass crop of white oaks are on the ground. Most crops are out now. A nice 9 point was taken 120 class. One scrub "4point". The hunter that took the 4 point, shot and wounded a nice 150 class. Tracked the deer over a several hour period. The buck was bleeding good then began to slow down a bit until the trail ended in field. No other sign from that point on. Nov 6th through the 8th was slow. Hotter days and a good SSW wind slowed the action down. The 9th was our first real cold snap and the wind is still strong. Most reports that I am getting is that the Rut should be full swing during rifle season. More to come.
thanks for the info, guys. i was looking at the weather and it's looking like saturday "opening day" will be a little warm, but sunday morning is looking nice.
