The primitive weapon season is open here in MS. I have seen some rut activity here in the east central part of the state. The rut generally is wide open about the 3rd week of December.
I bagged a 206lb 6 point the first day of the gun season on Nov. 19th. 4 bucks entered the field about 15 yards from me. I had to let them get on away from me a bit before I could make the shot. I took the biggest of the 4. They all had crap for antlers.
Its getting closer, and we are at least having some cooler weather right now.I suspect that we will beguin to see rutting activity in a few more days....
My boyfriend shot a 218 lb. 8 pointer near Kosciusko the day after Thanksgiving. His first mounter...very nice deer. Anyone heard of any good activity taken down near there or Union?

Dec 18-The rut has picked up here. Yesterday I took a buddy duck hunting on a pond bordering a large corn field. While he tried for a duck or two I deer hunted. Rattled, grunted, and bleated resulting in a spike almost stepping on me. He ran across the field and fed for a while. Right at dark two deer came in and one of the deer chased the small spike. I could not make out any antlers due the distance and darkness. I have found several fresh scrapes and rubs.
The rut is in full swing here in east central MS. Killed a seven point Monday evening. Had to yell real loud to make him quit chasing a doe long enough to get a shot.
I have seen plenty of rut activity. Just got back from a hunt and all the bucks i saw, a 10 point about a 160 class deer and a 130 class 9,were both chasing does.
I hunt between macon and louisville the rut has slowed way down.We are having real warm weather "70 to 75 degrees".I killed a real nice 10 point on dec 30 at 11am chasing a doe and grunting every breath. There were 8 good bucks killed on our club"still hunt club only" in two days"Dec 29&30"all were chasing does.7 of the bucks were killed between 9am and 2pm,the other one was killed @4:30pm.
