This is the place to post your observations about rutting activity in Iowa or simply find out what other hunters are seeing in the woods. Be sure to tell us the area of the state, indicate the date of the observation and describe what you've seen "bucks chasing does, fresh scrapes, etc.".

where are all the iowa hunters??? seen a lot of mock scrapes and rubs not much sniffing going on though...wind isn't helping the movement much either but tonight it should calm down and the deer should really be moving

Been hearing some grunting and witnessed a doe that went running to a bucks side after a few soft gunts. They dance around each other for quite some time but it was getting too dark to see anymore. Lots of scrapes and rubs but only a few that are being maintained. Caught pictures of a couple bucks sparring on one of my trial cameras but nothing serious yet. Lots of little bucks on the move.

Re: "linnbowhunter"

We're having some good movement down in southwest iowa. I had 2 six pointers and a young 11-12 pointer pushing a doe pretty good and heard a grunt or two come out of one of them. I also had a friend call in a couple of bucks using his grunt call. Once most of the corn is picked, we'll defintely see a lot more out and about. Getting pretty pumped, especially in couple weeks.

Re: Iowa 2006 "G Whittington"

I've seen a little bit of chasing, a few rubs, and more than enough scraps.I have to agree that once all of the corn is out, we'll all be seeing a lot more action.

Glad to see you Iowa hunters starting to hit the forum. You live and hunt in the ultimate whitetail country. Keep us informed, little activity in Kansas from what I've seen.....only small scrapes, not fresh, and yet to find a rub. Can't wait. Good luck up there to all you guys. Love to see some Iowa monsters.....

Re: Iowa 2006 "BOWUP"

I agree. Went out last night to change stand locations and found multiple fresh scrapes. Most of the scrapes are up to three feet across. Have also found half dozen or so trees up to 5 inches in diameter being hit. One of them has been shredded to the point the tree won't recover. Seen several does or the weekend and one smaller buck but didn't see much for sign. Based on the sign I seen last night things are looking up. Good luck out there.

Things are really starting to heat up. The next two weeks should be hot. The rut will be in full swing and the temperatures are cold. The movement should be good, especially mid day.

I have been having good success with a buck decoy this past week. With the pre-rut going strong the bucks are cruising for does and checking scrapes. The decoy works well to help lure a big boy in from out in the distance. Does don't really care for it though.

Re: Iowa 2006 "G Whittington"

Wish me luck guys!I have all next week off from work, to live in my stand! There have been a couple bruisers in the area I hunt, and am hoping to see em next week. One is a nice 12 pointer with some huge mass, but the spread isn't too much to be impressed with. I'm really gunin for him and will post a pic once he's in my hands Good luck to every one else!
